How We Can Help

The ADRA Community Centre offers counselling, case management and general support for individuals and couples of all ages. Services are free. Donations are accepted.

COUNSELLING

  • You can refer yourself by calling 02 9622 7188 and providing us with your name, phone number, reason for referral and the most convenient time for you to attend. You will be placed on a waiting list and contacted as soon as possible with an available appointment time.
  • The first time you attend you will be asked to fill out a form with basic information about yourself and sign a form indicating that you consent to receiving our service. If you have been referred by an external source (ie your doctor, probation and parole officer etc) you may also need to sign a “Consent to Release Information” form so we can communicate with your referrer when needs have been addressed and goals met.
  • Counselling begins with a 45-60 minute assessment to determine your needs and goals.

At times two clinicians will conduct the first assessment.

  • Ongoing sessions continue usually on a weekly basis until goals are met – approximately 6-10 sessions, but there is no limit.
  • If you are unable to attend a session, you MUST let us know the day before. Failure to do this on three occasions may result in the service being cancelled.
  • Support letters are provided for free if required. Detailed reports may incur minimal costs.

If you need to speak to us, please call 02 9622 7188 now.

CASE MANAGEMENT

  • If you require assistance with Housing, Centrelink matters or other referrals and advocacy, call us on 02 9622 7188, leave your name, phone number and reason for referral. You will be contacted as soon as possible with an available appointment time.
  • Often you will need to bring with you paperwork relating to your concerns. For example, if you need help with housing matters, you will need to bring any written communication you may have had with Department Housing, your latest Centrelink Statement of Earnings, bank statements etc. If you call the Centre before your appointment you will be told what you have to bring.
  • We provide referrals where support can’t be offered by the centre services.

If you need to speak to us, please call 02 9622 7188 now.

EMERGENCY FOOD

  • We provide food parcels (not vouchers) for emergency situations.
  • No appointments are necessary. Just come to our Centre and the first available volunteer or staff member will assist you.
  • Food items are donated to us by individuals and community groups. While every effort is made to ensure quality, some food can be expired and may not be suitable for you. Please advise our staff about any food that is unsuitable to you and your family.
  • Occasionally Christmas hampers are donated which we then distribute. Contact us in early December to see if any are available.
